The Parník Music Club hosted a talk titled From Ostrava to the Ocean, during which Ostrava native and our colleague Ivan Černošek shared his experiences from sailing expeditions. Over the course of the evening, he demonstrated that anyone can fulfill their childhood dream. His dream is out at sea, thousands of miles away from where he was born. The Ostrava rock band SKRAT also performed as part of the evening’s program.
Ivan Černošek lives and works in Ostrava, from where he regularly sets sail on voyages across the Mediterranean Sea and into the more challenging waters of the North Atlantic. Over the course of three decades, he has covered more than 41,000 nautical miles at sea and crossed the Atlantic three times. In his role as captain, he has visited, among other places, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and many other destinations. On his journeys, he gathered many experiences and insights, which he shared yesterday with dozens of listeners. Musical accompaniment was provided by Jan Hasík’s band SKRAT from the PURPOSIA Group, which served as the event’s patron.
Go After Your Dream
“But dreaming isn’t enough,” Ivan Černošek points out. “You have to make a decision and go after what you want, and that doesn’t just apply to yachting. If you really want to achieve something, do your best to make it happen; circumstances will then work in your favor, and the result will follow,” Ivan Černošek says from his own experience. During the discussion, he spoke about his voyages and expeditions, during which he occasionally found himself in adventurous situations. The audience was also interested in the technical aspects of sailing and daily life on board.
“Being far from land forces you to reflect on yourself. You have plenty of time to understand what kind of life you’re living, what it gives you, and what it takes away. And it’s entirely up to you how you embrace it and what you ultimately do with it. But the most important thing that a stay on the ocean—or in the mountains or other remote places—teaches you is humility toward nature itself,” continues Ivan Černošek.
The big beat band SKRAT performed
The “From Ostrava to the Ocean” discussion offered a blend of travel experiences and culture thanks to a performance by the band SKRAT, which prepared a unique concert set for the evening. Founded 45 years ago, SKRAT is once again touring extensively and recording its first studio album. The band combines its own original material with tried-and-true rock and big beat hits, a style they showcased once again at Klub Parník.
