HSF System
A car wash made of 3D-printed concrete has been built next to the Klokan shopping center in Žilina. The international construction group HSF System served as the general contractor for the project. It is the first car wash of its kind in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and one of the first commercial structures of its kind in Europe. The structure was built from 40 concrete components manufactured in 36 hours using a unique, patented 3D concrete printing technology. The investor is MC Štadión, a company belonging to the KLM Real Estate development group.
The new car wash is an extension of the Klokan shopping center, which the HSF System construction group built as the general contractor in 2025. The use of 3D concrete printing was already planned during the design phase of the entire complex. The new facility expands the range of services offered at the Klokan shopping center, located near the center of Žilina and the MŠK Žilina stadium. “What makes this project unique is that it was created entirely in-house—from the initial design through project preparation to the actual construction. We’ve thus proven that 3D printing is no longer just a vision of the future, but a reality. Thanks to this, we can now replace conventional construction methods with advanced and automated technologies,” says Tomáš Kosa, CEO of the HSF System construction group.
The car wash consists of 40 3D-printed components. Printing them took a total of 36 hours. With 3D concrete printing, components can be manufactured directly on-site or in a production hall and then transported to the construction site. In Žilina, the latter approach was chosen. The car wash was thus assembled on-site from pre-manufactured components. This approach reduced dependence on weather conditions and allowed for better control over manufacturing precision and the sequencing of subsequent work. “The structure meets all necessary parameters, including the thermal insulation and fire resistance requirements set by the relevant authorities. It is now fully operational and serving its purpose,” adds Tomáš Kosa.
The individual parts of the car wash were printed in the Czech Republic at Coral Construction Technologies using 3D Concrete Printing (3DCP) technology. Thanks to this technology, structures can be built faster, with greater precision, and with less waste. “The car wash is clear proof that we’re no longer talking about prototypes, but about actual structures. The building is small in size, but the technology used is absolutely unique worldwide. It’s printed from ordinary concrete. We’ve been developing this technology for nearly five years,” says Tomáš Vránek, CEO of Coral Construction Technologies.
The international construction group HSF System and Coral Construction Technologies are building on their previous experience with 3D printing, which includes, for example, the construction of the world’s first 3D-printed restaurant at the Kopřivná ski resort in the Czech Republic. Coral Construction Technologies is half-owned by the investment holding company PURPOSIA Group through HSF System. “Our collaboration with HSF System is helping us move 3D concrete printing from the development phase to real-world construction projects. We’re striving to demonstrate that robotization and automation in the construction industry are the right path forward, just as we’ve seen in industrial manufacturing,” adds Tomáš Vránek.
