HSF System is building a new Lidl store in Frýdek-Místek

International construction group HSF System is acting as general contractor for a new Lidl store in Frýdek-Místek in the Czech Republic. It is being built near the railway station on Staroměstská Street, on the site of the former Tkalcovna weaving mill. The project forms part of a wider regeneration of the area, building on the modernisation of the former Slezan textile mill buildings and further planned development in the surrounding area. The store is scheduled to open in December 2026.

The eastern and northern façades and part of the southern façade of the original building will be retained, including the gables made of exposed brickwork. A new single-storey Lidl store with a sales area of approximately 1,400 m² will adjoin this historic structure.

“Our aim is to ensure that construction proceeds smoothly and to deliver a modern retail building while preserving the historic façade to the required standard,” says Markéta Borská, Business Manager at HSF System. She adds: “We have many years of experience in the construction of retail stores, shopping centres and retail parks, not only in the Czech Republic but also in Slovakia.”

The project has included remedial work to the masonry and structural stabilisation of the historic façade. The remedial work comprised the installation of additional insulation, local repairs to defective and contaminated materials, and the impregnation of the exposed brickwork.

Demolition of the existing building began in spring this year, with construction of the store following on immediately.

“We are very much looking forward to seeing the completed project. Retaining the historic exposed-brick façade and combining it with a modern Lidl building will give the area a unique character,” adds Markéta Borská.
