We Presented Our Vision at the International Festival of Architecture and Design PULSE Ostrava 2026

I founded PURPOSIA Group with the vision of actively contributing to the development of the city and helping transform Ostrava into a pleasant place to live, work, and relax. I believe we are gradually fulfilling this vision, which is why I was especially pleased to take part in the International Festival of Architecture and Design PULSE Ostrava 2026, where I had the opportunity to present our current and upcoming projects and outline the group’s long-term strategy.

During the panel discussion Who Shapes Public Space? Art, Architecture and the Identity of the City from the Perspective of Cultural and Creative Industries, I introduced several projects that, in our view, contribute to the cultivation of public space and positively influence the character of the city. One of them is the former Palace Hotel. We devoted significant attention to selecting the architectural studio for this project because we wanted to ensure that the future complex would not only be functional, but would also create a highly representative and attractive place to live. That is why we chose the path of an international architectural competition, which attracted 86 studios from around the world, ultimately selecting the renowned Berlin-based studio Kuehn Malvezzi.

The Palace project also demonstrates how important it is to effectively plan and optimize ambitious visions according to the economic realities of the market. Our priority is to create projects with long-term value that will stand the test of time. We therefore do not focus solely on individual buildings; especially in development projects, we always think in broader connections and in the context of the surrounding environment.

We applied the same approach when building our headquarters in Ostrava-Kunčičky, where we successfully transformed a brownfield site into an attractive location for other companies. As a result, the entire area has gradually become more cultivated, safer, and more accessible, while the attractiveness of surrounding properties has also increased. We are taking a similar approach with the Václav project in the centre of Ostrava, where the revitalization includes not only the building itself, but also improvements to the surrounding public space, including new sidewalks and lighting.

3D Printing Definitely Belongs in Cities

A separate chapter is 3D printing, which, in my opinion, is still not used in urban environments to the extent it deserves. Yet this technology offers enormous potential for the production of urban furniture such as benches, bus stops, playground elements, or smaller architectural structures. Thanks to 3D printing, original and bold shapes can be created that are at the same time highly functional, durable, and suitable for serial production. Moreover, the larger the number of identical elements produced, the more efficient and cost-effective the manufacturing process becomes.

For example, we are currently preparing a music pavilion for the Ostrava-Poruba district, produced using 3D concrete printing technology. In my view, this project perfectly demonstrates how modern technology, architecture, and art can come together to create functional and aesthetically valuable elements that positively influence the character of urban space.

I see enormous potential for 3D printing particularly in the field of small-scale urban architecture, which is why I was very pleased that colleagues from our subsidiary Coral Construction Technologies, which develops 3D printing technology, were also invited to the festival. Architect and colleague Michal Mačuda from Coral is one of the few architects in the Czech Republic with experience in designing 3D-printed structures. He showed festival guests how 3D printing can be used in practice, what possibilities it offers, and how an architectural design is transferred “from paper” into real-world printing so that the final result precisely matches the architect’s vision. This process requires highly specialized expertise — and our colleagues at Coral possess exactly that expertise.
