HSF System
The international construction group HSF System, part of the PURPOSIA Group holding company, has long regarded ESG principles as a natural part of its business. In 2024, it took further steps to reduce its environmental impact, refined its carbon footprint calculation, and expanded its energy efficiency and circular construction measures.
In the Czech Republic, HSF System’s carbon footprint reached 164.58 tCO₂ per employee. This represents a 54% decrease compared to 2023. Its sister company, HSF System SK, which analyzed the data for the first time, reported a value of 177.09 tCO₂ per employee. The calculation was performed by Green0meter and ČSOB Advisory in accordance with the international GHG Protocol standard. “In our opinion, it is necessary to create legislation that will motivate investors and construction companies to adopt more sustainable solutions and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings throughout their entire life cycle, not just during operation. It is also important to establish clear methodologies for assessing the life cycle of buildings (LCA) and to set up a support system for projects that apply these principles in practice,” says Petra Cichoňová, ESG manager at the HSF System construction group.
In 2024, the HSF System construction group focused on improving the collection and structuring of ESG data, which led to higher-quality ESG reporting. Significant steps in the area of emissions reduction included the installation of a photovoltaic power plant at the Ostrava headquarters and the acquisition of the first electric cars for the company’s fleet. The group also established closer cooperation with its waste processor in order to optimize processes and minimize waste. As part of strengthening responsibility in the supply chain, the HSF System group introduced a Code of Ethics for suppliers. “We strive to make our business sustainable in the long term. We do this not because we have to, but because it makes sense to us. We report ESG voluntarily, the photovoltaic power plant on the roof of our headquarters in Ostrava already covers a third of our consumption, we are exploring circular principles in construction, reducing our carbon footprint, and looking for other ways to build with less impact on the environment,” says Tomáš Kosa, director of the HSF System construction group.
As a general contractor, HSF System takes sustainability principles into account in all phases of a building’s life cycle. In the design phase, it focuses on efficient structural design and optimal use of materials. Thanks to digitalization, it is able to plan more accurately, thereby reducing excess materials and waste. The group also sees great potential in modular construction and prefabrication, which streamline the construction process and reduce its environmental impact. “We also actively participate in industry initiatives. We are a member of an expert group in the Association of Building Entrepreneurs, where we are involved in the creation of ESG methodology in construction,” adds Petra Cichoňová, who will also become an ambassador for the #BuildingLife campaign under the auspices of the Czech Green Building Council, of which HSF System is also a member.
The HSF System construction group is collaborating on the development of 3D concrete printing. Together with VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, it monitored the tension of jointless floors, which contribute to more sustainable construction. A research project on the energy efficiency of buildings was carried out at the University of Žilina in Žilina. For 2025, the HSF System construction group received an award from Deloitte for the best-managed companies in Czechia and Slovakia.
